Sephardi Shabbat at UM Hillel invites participants to experience Sephardic Jewish culture through the shared languages of food, prayer, memory, and hospitality. The evening begins with Shabbat services at 6:00 PM, followed by dinner at 7:00 PM.

Sephardic Jewish heritage traces its roots to the Iberian Peninsula and extends across North Africa, the Mediterranean, the Ottoman Empire, the Middle East, and the Americas. This history includes rich traditions of religious scholarship, music, cuisine, language, and communal life, including Ladino, a Judeo-Spanish language that helped preserve older forms of Spanish among Sephardic communities.

Presented with UM Hillel, Sephardi Spaces, Sephardi Voices, and the American Sephardi Federation, this gathering offers a warm opportunity to celebrate Shabbat while learning about the depth and diversity of Sephardic culture.
